Please join us for a CHTW talk with Prof. Steven R. J. Brueck on March 25th starting at noon!  Pizza will be served!

Abstract

CHTM was established in 1983, and some of its early history will be reviewed. The CHTM missions include: education (pedigrees), research (publications) and economic development (patents and commercialization). The interplay between research, funding, and commercialization will be discussed, with particular reference to research evolution and work at CHTM and on interactions with UNM Rainforest Innovations.

Speaker Bio

Dr. Steven R. J. Brueck is an ECE Distinguished Professor, Emeritus at UNM, and Vice President and Chief Scientific Officer of Armonica Technologies, Inc., a company commercializing long-read-DNA-sequencing based on nanostructures developed at UNM. Dr. Brueck’s degrees are in Electrical Engineering (BS, Columbia University 1965, SM, MIT 1967 and PhD MIT 1971). Professor Brueck was a technical staff member at MIT Lincoln Laboratory from 1971 to 1985 when he joined UNM. He became director of the Center for High Technology Materials in 1986, stepping down in 2013 and becoming emeritus in 2014. During his tenure, CHTM matured into an internationally respected research center in photonics, microelectronics and nanotechnology.
